Barça close in on AC Milan's European Super Cup record

Barcelona are just one win away from equalling AC Milan's European Super Cup titles. The Catalans have four titles to their name, whilst the Italians have five.

Barça won their first title back in 1992, beating Werder Bremen over two legs (1-1 and 2-1), just a few months after Ronald Koeman's legendary free-kick saw them lift their first ever European Cup.
Number two came five years later, when the team coached by the Netherlands' Louis Van Gaal won the European Cup Winners Cup before going on to beat European champions Borussia Dortmund (1-1 and 2-0).

With Pep Guardiola installed in the Camp Nou dugout (2009), a team with the likes of Messi, Henry and Ibrahimovic up front beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in Monaco thanks to a 115th minute goal from substitute Pedro.

The same stadium played host to the 2011 European Super Cup which saw Messi's all-conquering Barcelona take on Hulk's Porto. The Catalans won that game 2-0, with goals from the Argentine genius and Cesc Fàbregas.

However, Barcelona can boast playing in the most finals. They have played in eight such games over the years, including defeats to Nottingham Forest (1979), Aston Villa (1982), AC Milan (1989) and Sevilla (2006).
